The unsung superheroes of 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay are those who keep guests safe and the property secure. Our Engineers protect and maintain the hotel itself, the property it’s on, and the surrounding grounds.  They attend to daily maintenance and repairs, from HVAC problem-solving to dry wall repair. Generally, engineers are the people who save the day, and who also ensures there is rarely, if ever, a day that needs saving. 

We’re currently seeking an affable, reliable Engineer at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. And when you’re engaging with guests, it’s all about being accommodating, patient, and warm while resolving the issue as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Our Ideal Candidate:

•The ability to satisfactorily communicate with: guests, management and co-workers to their fullest understanding.  Be fluent in both written and verbal English communication skills.

•Be knowledgeable of all aspects of guest rooms. 

•Must have good mechanical aptitude and have skills allowing for performance of specific, basic duties which may include one or more of. (But not limited to) the following under general supervision and/or lead direction.  

•Knowledgeable of equipment and all support features to include but not limited to: the T.V, DVD, VCR, Blue Ray, Stereo, Peripheral guest equipment, Doors, HVAC Units and Thermostat, Guest Room Plumbing, Snake and Drain Equipment, Electrical work including; switches, outlets, and lighting, In Room Electronics, Cosmetic work, patching, sanding painting and furniture touch ups, Grout/Caulking, Knowledge of and location of Electrical, Gas and water shut off’s to name a few.

•The ability to respond to guest room calls and have the knowledge to make the repairs in a timely and efficient manner.

•Ability to follow instruction both verbally and in writing.

•Know Fire Life Safety procedures, shut off valves, fire control panel, stairwells etc.. Must respond to all emergency calls and be able to assist immediately in helping to remedy the situation

•Ability to follow up with guest, managers, and fellow associates regarding the status / progress of the work you are engaged in for them.

•Ability to accurately fill out your tracking sheet, room call sheet, preventative maintenance and work orders, make legible entries in the log book and fill out inspection sheets and turn them in at the end of your shift. Also noting and tools, supplies materials, or training you may require to continue to produce exceptional work.

•Have the ability to retain what you have learned and apply it to the job at hand.

•Be ability to troubleshoot problems, equipment and evaluate situations and arrive at the most efficient way to resolve the challenge before you.

•If you do not know how to do something ask for help.

•Must have or be working towards gaining the basic knowledge of electronics, electrical circuits and wiring, HVAC and hydraulics.  

•Must have the ability to read and interpret blue prints and wiring diagrams.

Reasoning Ability: 

•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. 

•Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions furnished in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

•A full range of motion is also required; there will be times when crawling, bending, twisting, reaching, working with hands over your head will be needed. 

•There will be pulling and pushing involved of tools and or equipment. 

•There is a need for hand strength, gripping tools, pulling wire, securing ropes etc. 

•Balance and agility are also important. 

•Working on a ladder is also a requirement. 

•The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

•The proper lifting techniques are to be used and proper equipment to be employed.

•You will get dirty, there are jump suites and additional uniforms for that reason. 

•You can be exposed to noise uncomfortable noise levels to include:  hammering, pounding, grinding, sanding, scraping, loud equipment of hand tools. 

•If you find yourself in these conditions use the approved safety equipment.
