The unsung superheroes of 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay are those who keep guests safe and the property secure. Our Engineers protect and maintain the hotel itself, the property it’s on, and the surrounding grounds.  They attend to daily maintenance and repairs, from HVAC problem-solving to dry wall repair. Generally, engineers are the people who save the day, and who also ensures there is rarely, if ever, a day that needs saving. 

We’re currently seeking an affable, reliable Engineer at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. And when you’re engaging with guests, it’s all about being accommodating, patient, and warm while resolving the issue as quickly and seamlessly as possible. Our Ideal Candidate: 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Ability to perform, lead, train, and advise on any tasks that are within the responsibility of the department at a high level of proficiency as required.

•Duties may include one or more of the following: Electrical, electronics, plumbing, air conditioning, test and treat boilers and chillers, refrigeration, mechanical, locksmith, carpentry, cabinet making, painting and masonry.  Performs all duties of lower classification engineers.  Originates purchase order requisitions and maintains adequate stock of tools and materials.

•Respond and attend to guest and in house requests for repair, maintenance and preventative maintenance. Resolve general plumbing issues such as unclogging drains, plunging toilets, and repairing leaky spigots, plumbing lines, pumps and faucets. Perform general HVAC trouble shooting and repairs.

•Perform miscellaneous repairs such as maintenance on equipment, dry wall repair, vinyl wall covering installation/replacement throughout hotel area.

•Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment (electrical, mechanical, vacuums, televisions), including cleaning, troubleshooting and lubrication. 

•Troubleshoot and repair kitchen equipment.

•Maintain daily logs of operation and maintenance. 

•Communicate with leaders/team members when necessary to resolve maintenance issues.

•Maintain accurate logs and records as required and ensure regulatory compliance to facility regulations and safety standards and procedures are followed; report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; and complete safety training and certifications. 

•Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information, and protect company assets. 

•Perform carpentry work as directed/needed.

•Perform swimming pool maintenance and fitness equipment repairs.

•Use computer programs/hand held devices for communication purposes.

•Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests' service needs, and assist individuals with disabilities. 

•Speak with others using clear and professional language. 

•Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other team members. 

•Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards. 

•Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Be able to perform manual material handling of 50lbs individually or with assistance of a co-worker when over 50lbs if necessary. 

•Visually inspect tools, equipment, and/or machines. 

•Move up and down stairs, service ramps, and/or ladder. Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight. Use lift in order to reach high areas throughout property when necessary. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Leaders.

•Accountable for understanding and usage of HotSOS system. Completing work orders and tasks in an efficient manner as they are assigned to optimize departmental performance.

•Maintain the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems and make repairs to such equipment if necessary. 

•Participate in preventative maintenance program to perform services include painting, repair work, renovations and the replacement of furniture and equipment.  Communicate areas that need attention to staff and follow-up to ensure understanding.

•Learn how to operate all functional equipment for all seasons and assist with upcoming storms. Maintaining the grounds (i.e. snow removal, keeping common pass-throughs safe and clear for our guests and team members).

•Ensure daily operations to be incompliance with all engineering policies, standards and procedures are being followed and documented.

•Participate in the development and implementation of corrective action plans to improve guest satisfaction and strive to improve service performance.

•Identify opportunities to optimize performance and create value by challenging existing processes, encouraging innovation and driving necessary change.

•Establish and maintain open, collaborative internal and external relationships.  Develop lasting relationships with guests to secure repeat business.

•Embody the 1 Hotels Vision, Mission and Compass; deliver on Our Promise, provide Good-Natured Service and uphold our Brand Pillars.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

REQUIRED:

•A high school degree or GED; 

•At least 3 years of experience in engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HAVC-R/electrical/plumbing.  Certifications are highly recommended.

•Detailed knowledge of Engineering operations; demonstrated strong leadership skills; and proven achievements in optimizing guest and team member engagement.

•Experience successfully leading in a fast-paced environment and prioritizing demands.

•Strong interpersonal, team member relations and leadership abilities.

•Technically savvy and familiar with Engineering operating/programs.

•Ability to identify and solve problems.  

•Professional & appropriate business appearance and demeanor aligned with the 1 Hotel brand and culture.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•Flexibility to meet the demands of a 24-hour operation

PREFERRED:

•Prior experience in a quality luxury hotel or restaurant brand; specifically in Engineering.

•Certificate of Fitness for and including standpipe, sprinkler, fuel oil storage, FSD and piping systems.
