Leveraging its marketing, design, operational, and technological expertise, SH is the force behind some of the most groundbreaking and dynamic hotel brands in the world. This position reports to the CEO.

About the role...

We are looking for an innovative leader devoted to architecture excellence, committed to an ongoing discovery of sustainability, and interested in pushing the envelope in this direction. Responsibilities are directly linked to the Technical Services Agreements (TSA) between SH Hotels and property owners. In addition, SH Design and Technical Standards. This is not a design or creative role but rather technical and project management oriented.

1.     BRAND REPERSENTATIVE FOR ASSIGNED PROJECTS:

  • Act as the SH main owner contact for select projects.
  • Administer the TSA process as defined in the TSA SOP.
  • Attend TSA phased meetings with Owner/ Architect/Contractor including project kick-off, programming meetings, working meetings and construction kick-off meetings.
  • Assemble all internal document reviews for each submission/project phase as defined by the milestone deliverables schedule.
  • Review and provide technical direction to drawing submissions and specifications.
  • Team technical lead for all support disciplines (internal and external to SH) including MEP, Technology, Low Voltage, Surveillance, Landscaping, Lighting Design, Sound and Multi Media, Kitchen and Laundry consultants.
  • Strong technical collaboration with Interior Design and Food and Beverage.

2.     ARCHITECTURE AND SUSTAINABILITY CONTRIBUTOR

  • Provide comments and collaborate with internal and external teams on all technical architecture, building systems and LEED Silver sustainability requirements. Provide comments to the assigned project manager within one day of the required timeframe allowing time for internal processing before comments are issued to ownership/project team.
  • Support internal development team in evaluating new TSA contracts and strategize with executive team on all deviations to the standards contract.
  • Work with diverse stakeholders to coordinate, and implement strategies to reduce, monitor, and optimize SH Hotels and Resorts carbon footprint in buildings.
  • Prepare written analysis of findings and recommendations for building-related sustainability solutions.
  • Develop and implement carbon reduction and sustainable building strategies from concept through operations.
  • Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.

3.     PROJECT MANAGEMENT (During Construction)

 Oversight of construction phase of assigned projects. Ensure the Owner/Developer, Brand, Construction and Design Consultants are coordinated throughout the implementation of the built facilities. (This activity can be supported by a PM from owners or brand side depending on project specific team arrangement). Regardless site visits at key phasing will be conducted.

  • Ensuring brand standards are met during construction during all construction changes.
  • Regularly report to SH Exec Team on Budget, Schedule and Program updates.
  • Processing of all required submittals and material samples required by the TSA.
  • Routine site walk through reports with action items, drawings / photographs, pending submittals
  • When appropriate manage Punch List consultant and strategize resolutions
  • Verification of all Commissioning, As-built Contract Documents, Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals at completion.

4.     STANDARDS MANAGEMENT:

  • Responsible for the management and posting of all Architecture and Construction Design Standards, formatting and maintenance insuring the quality and product.
  • Responsible for all content of the following standards: Architectural Design Standards, TSA Process Documents, Mechanical Divisions, Electrical Divisions, Plumbing Divisions, Life and Fire Safety Guidelines, Technology Standards, and VH Sustainability Program

5.   SUSTAINABILITY:

Act as sustainability advocate and aid all project teams in obtaining a minimum of LEED Silver certification as defined within the brand standards. In addition:

  • Conduct Sustainability Charrettes with owner’s team. Help ownership develop the BOD Basis of Design and OPR the Owners Project Requirements.
  • Process all LEED project submittals, and respond to all LEED criteria points from project conception through construction. Best practice technical analysis is developed and presented to key decision-makers for maximum energy saving impacts.
  • Assist the management of ongoing green operations and programs at individual hotels.
  • Ensure the green teams at the local property understand their obligations in performing sustainability practices. Soap recycling, waste diversion and waste recycling, greenhouse keeping practices, chemical storage.
  • Ensure the Director of Engineering at each property is submitting and recording property energy usages with Department Of Energy “Energy Star Portfolio Manager Program.” Reporting of all utility bills to Energy Star database.
  • Property is following all programs listed on the sustainability website. Thermal Comfort verification surveys, walkable tours.
  • Evaluate initiation and maintain carbon offset programs for guest participation if not part of larger third party program.
  • Management of Carbon Reporting and waste reporting programs for all hotels.
  • Evaluating bulk purchasing power agreements to reduce utility cost from a portfolio perspective. This includes procurement of renewable energy.

All other involvement in sustainability initiatives and inquiries will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

About you...

  • Passionate about sustainable building and a minimum of 3 years of similar work experience.
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree would be a plus.
  • Precise, organized and detail oriented.
  • LEED certification and understanding of sustainable design – preferred.
  • Solid working proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standards including IBC, IFC, and NFPA
  • Possess the ability to perform under pressure in a fast paced environment continually assessing priorities and acting quickly with a sense of urgency
  • Excels at communication, both verbal and written.
  • Is flexible and willing to meet the demands of a 24-hour operation
  • Exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation
